Netflix is easily the biggest streamer in the world, and the platform has been in the news cycle lately following the confirmation that it was backing out of the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Last year, the streamer emerged as the favorite to acquire the studio, but just yesterday, it announced that it would not be upping its bid, meaning that Paramount will win control of Warner Bros. once the dust settles. This certainly won’t stop Netflix from continuing to release hit original movies and TV shows, and also acquiring old classics and giving them new life. It’s hard to look at what the platform has done in terms of revivals for older franchises like Dexter and deny that it can make or break an old show searching for a second life.
Netflix releases most of its new original movies and TV shows every Friday, but the streamer premieres many of its older classics at the start of each month. One of the biggest surprises coming to Netflix in just a few days is The Mentalist, the hit crime thriller show that ran for seven seasons between 2008 and 2015. It's the perfect alternative for fans missing Mindhunter, and it will arrive on Netflix on March 1. The series is from a different era, when it wasn’t shocking for shows to release new seasons every year. The Mentalist follows a psychic who uses his heightened observational skills and impeccable knowledge of human behavior to work with the police and catch the man who murdered his family. The show stars Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, Robin Tunney as Teresa Lisbon, Tim Kang as Kimball Cho, and more. Pedro Pascal even featured in seven episodes of The Mentalist as Agent Marcus Pike, and it’s still one of his most famous roles.
What’s Streaming on Netflix Right Now?
The most popular show on Netflix right now is Bridgerton, which has rocketed past its rivals following the premiere of its final batch of episodes in Season 4. To reach the top of Netflix streaming charts, Bridgerton had to pass a pair of crime thriller sleeper hits, The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer, which each recently aired new seasons with more likely on the way. The most popular movie on Netflix at the time of writing is Firebreak, the Spanish survival thriller following a widow whose daughter disappears in the midst of dangerous wildfires.
Check out all episodes of The Mentalist when they arrive on Netflix on March 1 and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
