On Sunday, Nate Bargatze won his first Grammy for Best Comedy Album, for Your Friend, Nate Bargatze. Previously, the everyman comedian was Grammy nominated in 2022 for his special The Greatest Average American, also on Netflix.

Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, released on the streamer Christmas 2024, featured the top-grossing comic’s signature deadpan and dim-witted humor, and was additionally nominated for three Emmys last year.

Bargatze’s competitors for Best Comedy Album included Bill Burr with Drop Dead Years, Sarah Silverman with PostMortem, Ali Wong with Single Lady, and Jamie Foxx with What Had Happened Was… Recognizing work released between August 31, 2024 and August 30, 2025, the Grammys again took place at their longtime home, Crypto.com Arena, with comedian Trevor Noah hosting for what he’s said would be the final time. A majority of the category winners, including Bargatze’s, were announced during the nontelevised pre-show premiere ceremony, hosted by Darren Criss.

The comic has had his star on the rise for years now, and has had his eyes on building a media empire via his Nateland production company, which is behind the forthcoming feature comedy The Breadwinner and ABC’s new game show The Greatest Average American.

Recently, Bargatze also served as last year’s Emmys host, a less than warmly received post given the charity donation gimmick that forced many winners to abort their addresses. The comic later defended the bit amid backlash, saying he wasn’t trying to “overshadow” any of the speeches: “A lot of reviews did not like that, but it came from a real place of heart. Everybody at home loved it. It was fun and entertaining to see money go down and all that. I wasn’t trying to put anyone on the spot or make someone donate money. In my head I thought, ‘Make it fun.’ We’re not using the charity as a tool.”
