Mubi has picked up the rights to Na Hong-Jin’s latest feature, Hope in Latin America, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey, ahead of the film’s debut in Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The film is written and directed by Na Hong-Jin, and stars Hwang Jung-min (Wailing), Zo In-sung (Moving), and Hoyeon (Disclaimer), alongside Michael Fassbender (The Killer), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), Taylor Russell (Bones and All), and Cameron Britton (The Umbrella Academy).

The official synopsis reads: “In Hope Harbor, a remote village near the Demilitarized Zone, police outpost chief Bum-seok receives alarming news from locals that a tiger has appeared. As the village erupts into panic, Bum-seok is forced to confront a reality beyond belief.”

The film was produced by Na’s production banner, Forged Films and Plus M Entertainment. Plus M Entertainment is handling international sales. Neon has North American rights to the title, which marks Na’s return to Cannes. The filmmaker previously debuted The Wailing Out of Competition in Cannes in 2016; the crime-thriller The Yellow Sea in the Un Certain Regard section in 2011; and his thriller The Chaser, Out of Competition in 2008.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival runs from May 12 to 23.
