Magic is essential to the DC Universe. Whether it's Blue Beetle, Doctor Fate, Zatanna, or Constantine, it's not a DC story unless it's replete with the mystical mystery of magic. However, magic doesn't just bend to the good guys - and as the Justice Society of America learns, in the case of the evil wizard Mordru, it champions him as the most powerful magic user in DC history.

Mordru makes a surprise appearance in Justice Society of America #11 by Geoff Johns and Marco Santucci, but not as his usual wizened and evil self. He's come back in time, masking himself as the Legionnaire, and he needs the Society's help to help him stop himself.

In the most recent preview, the stakes of this new danger are revealed as Mordru is said to be the most powerful magic being in all of DC, with unstoppable mystical powers no other magician could even match. The only person who could stop an immortal being like that is the immortal being himself. With a little help from his new friends at the Justice Society of America, that is.

Mordru has been around for some time. Often a villain jumping around timelines and universes, he likes to make enemies of big groups of superheroes - because he's too powerful to take on alone. He's been seen as the antagonist to the Justice Society of America, the Justice League, the Legion of Superheroes - and even DC's weirdest team, the League of Substitute Heroes, which has recently reappeared. But now Mordru has arrived in a new form: as a 16-year-old boy who has seen his bleak future and wants to stop himself from ever becoming that monster. Because if he did, there would be no stopping him.

Making history by recruiting Mordru, the Justice Society is really coming into its most interesting roster with its anti-heroes and characters slipping in between worlds. As the team comes up against a threat it's never been able to really defeat, Mordru is going to become an instrumental part of the Justice Society and the surprising hero of the year. All the Justice Society needs to do is change the future - something only the heroes of the past are capable of doing.

DC's future is about to change forever as the heroes of the past come to war with the heroes of the future. The Legion of Super-Heroes stands ready, but the Justice Society of America is DC's first team, and with Mordru at their side, they will become unstoppable.
