EXCLUSIVE: Molly C. Quinn (Castle) and Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) have wrapped on The Weight, a psychological thriller marking the feature directorial debut of American Gods producer Sallyanne Massimini, who co-wrote the script with Thomas Care.
Shot in Ontario, Canada, with production led by Exit 44 Entertainment and Palo Pictures, the film centers on Mia (Quinn), who wakes up chained in a remote cabin, only to witness her captor, David (Cuffe), burying a body outside. Knowing she’ll be next, she breaks free and flees through treacherous cliffs and waterfalls while David, haunted by remorse and grief, pursues her relentlessly through the wilderness.
Ty Leisher (11th Hour Cleaning) and Eric Brodeur (The Haunting of the Mary Celeste) produced for Exit 44 Entertainment.
Stated Massimini, “Filming in freezing temperatures at a waterfall, the demanding physicality of Molly’s stunts and body burns, and the quick pivot to highly emotionally charged scenes with Cameron. The team handled these daily challenges with the utmost grace, passion, and professionalism. I’m incredibly grateful for the brilliant cast and crew.”
Best known for starring opposite Nathan Fillion on Castle, which ran for eight seasons on ABC, Quinn’s feature credits include Agnes, Doctor Sleep, We’re the Millers and 2024 TIFF People’s Choice Award winner The Life of Chuck, which she also executive produced.
Cuffe, who is known for his leading role as Seg-El throughout multiple series of Syfy’s Krypton, will soon be seen in British miniseries Nautilus. Other credits include BBC One and Working Title’s Everything I Know About Love, ABC’s Time After Time, and Stephen Frears’ Florence Foster Jenkins.
Quinn is represented by Paradigm, 11:11 Entertainment, and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer; Cuffe by The Artists Partnership, Bond Artist Management, and Jackoway Austen; Leisher and Brodeur by Sandstone Artists; and Massimini by Duncan Hedges.
