Disney’s “Moana 2” stayed atop the U.K. and Ireland box office for the third consecutive weekend with £3.6 million ($4.5 million), bringing its cumulative total to £26.4 million ($33.5 million), according to numbers from Comscore.
Universal’s “Wicked” continued to demonstrate staying power in second place, adding £3.4 million in its fourth week for a robust £43.6 million total. Paramount’s “Gladiator II” rounded out the top three with £918,256, pushing its five-week total to £28.4 million. Studiocanal’s “Paddington in Peru” held steady in fourth place, collecting £821,657 for a six-week cumulative of £30.2 million.
Sony’s new entry “Kraven the Hunter” opened in fifth with £686,806. Black Bear’s sixth placed “Conclave” gathered £554,970 in its third week for a £4 million total, while Warner Bros.’ newcomer “Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” debuted in seventh position with £483,583.
Mubi’s “Queer” launched with £293,040 in eighth place, as Warner Bros.’ “Red One,” in ninth position, added £259,405 in its sixth frame for a £7.7 million total. AA Films U.K.’s “Pushpa 2 – The Rule” completed the top 10 with £207,347 in its second week, reaching £1.6 million overall.
Looking ahead, the Royal Opera House’s “Ivanov/Wright The Nutcracker” special event from Trafalgar Releasing screens from Tuesday. The pre-holiday frame sees Netflix’s “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” arriving Wednesday in select locations, featuring the voices of Ben Whitehead, Peter Kay, and Lauren Patel.
The big release on Friday is Disney’s keenly anticipated “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which is expected to roar at the box office. Also releasing on the Friday is Miracle/Dazzler’s animation “Dolphin Boy” that follows a little boy who is rescued by a young wild dolphin after surviving a plane crash.
The Indian releases this Friday include Zee Studios International’s Hindi-language action drama “Vanvaas,” headlined by Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma, and Dreamz Entertainment’s Malayalam-language action film “Marco,” a spinoff of 2019’s “Mikhael” featuring that film’s antagonist played by Unni Mukundan.
