Miley Cyrus fires back at 'clickbait' criticism of her recent concert in wild onstage rant after fans slammed her 'lackluster' performance

Miley Cyrus lashed out at her critics while performing her second sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday.

The singer, 33, came under fire after the first concert on Friday, with a number of fans taking to social media after the show to complain that Cyrus lacked enthusiasm.

One of the biggest critiques leveled at the Flowers hitmaker was that she too often held her microphone out to the crowd so that they could sing along to her hits, rather than Cyrus herself singing the songs.

Clearly fed up with the bad reviews, Cyrus snapped at Sunday's performance and told the crowd that she had even considered not coming out on stage and wanted to 'run away' before the show.

'I've never heard that I don't put my heart into something,' she said.

'I don't know if any of you heard that. That somebody was doing commentary to get clickbait on their video talking about my show on Friday night, but I'm a lot of things, and we're not even going to entertain that.'

The star, who has publicly expressed her reluctance to tour or perform live multiple times, then admitted that she was having trouble being on stage again.

'It is hard for me to stand up here and do this show,' she shared.

'It does not come as natural as it once did to me before. Because, like all of us, we change, we evolve, we grow, and we find what gets to come with us. What continues to fit.'

She then insisted that, despite the criticism, she was 'fully present' on stage.

Later in the show, Cyrus snapped again while performing Bass Persuades, saying, 'Oh, I forgot, I'm supposed to sing every f***ing chorus.'

She also angrily told the crowd that the reason she wasn't doing 'cartwheels' on stage was because she had to sing live, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

A number of fans took to social media after the star's comeback concert on Friday to express their disappointment.

'I walked away from that show not necessarily feeling fulfilled,' influencer Tyler Wells shared on TikTok in a now viral review.

'I walked away feeling kind of sad for her,' he continued. 'This was my first time seeing Miley live and I wish I could have seen her back in the day when her heart felt more in it.'

TikTok influencer Erik David had a similar take, stating that he was 'very disappointed' and 'left early before the show even ended.'

Pop music critic Alex Mars, who flew from New York to Los Angeles for the concert, said that Cyrus seemed 'detached' from many of her biggest hits, but praised her live vocals and said that she was more passionate while performing obscure deep cuts from her discography.

Cyrus has been open about her struggles when it comes to performing live.

In 2023, she told British Vogue, 'Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn't really the thing that I love. There's no connection.'

In a follow up statement on social media, Cyrus said that she didn't want to sleep on a moving tour bus ever again.

She has also said that she suffers from a vocal condition called Reinke's edema as well as a large vocal cord polyp, which has prevented her from touring extensively.

Cyrus recently made chart history with her latest album Bass Persuades, but not in a good way.

After the disc defied initial sales expectations and pulled off a shock No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, it plummeted to No. 157 in its second week and then fell off the charts completely in its third.

This cataclysmic drop makes it the biggest fall from No. 1 for a female artist in Billboard history.

The record was originally held by Madonna's Madame X, which fell from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019, before being broken a few months later by Celine Dion's Courage, which plummeted from the top spot to No. 111.

Bass Persuades is the first album Cyrus has released under Atlantic Records after leaving Columbia Records earlier this year.
