Time travel and universe hopping have had a resurgence in on-screen storytelling over the last several years. Franchises like Marvel have used the idea of multiple timelines to link their characters together and bring back old favorites, while classics like Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar have used the foundation of time travel to not just captivate but fully blow our minds. But, time travel isn’t just for the superheroes and sci-fi fans out there, as a subgenre of horror has started to take hold, giving us fresh hits such as Nahnatchka Khan’s Totally Killer and Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day franchise. Today, we at Collider are thrilled to unveil an exclusive brand-new look at your newest sci-fi horror obsession, Redux Redux, which will celebrate its cinematic release on February 20.
Blending sci-fi elements with a story of vengeance, Redux Redux follows Kelly (Michaela McManus), a grieving mother who is struggling to accept the recent passing of her daughter. In hopes of making her child’s murderer pay the ultimate price for their crimes, Kelly goes on a universe-hopping journey with the mission of ending his life over and over. But, with each slice of revenge served, Kelly finds her own morality pulled into question as she begins down a dark path with no end in sight.
An intense struggle for control is on display in our exclusive first look at Redux Redux, with the stakes piled sky-high for Kelly (McManus) and her time-traveling partner, Mia (Stella Marcus). The sneak peek starts with an explosion, presumably showing one of the film’s many universe-jumping points, with Mia and Kelly quickly dashing out of a hole in the ground with two pursuers on their heels. Both Mia and Kelly fight for their lives against their attackers, but things aren’t looking very good for either of our protagonists by the time the clip comes to an end.
Who’s Behind ‘Redux Redux’?
Redux Redux is the latest project to hail from co-writers, directors and brothers Kevin and Matthew McManus, who previously paired together for both 2012’s Funeral Kings and 2021’s The Block Island Sound. The duo have also been celebrated for their work as writers and producers behind Netflix favorites American Vandal and Cobra Kai. In addition to co-helming and co-penning the screenplay, the McManus brothers also produce alongside Michael McGarry, Nate Cormier and PJ McCabe with the ensemble cast featuring the talents of Jeremy Holm (House of Cards), Jim Cummings (The Beta Test), Taylor Misiak (Dave) and Dendrie Taylor (Sons of Anarchy).
