Michael Fassbender is front and center in a new Avengers: Doomsday art that imagines the actor's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Magneto. At this time, Marvel has not officially announced Fassbender as part of the cast of the next Avengers movie, even though several Fox X-Men actors were revealed to be reprising their roles in the upcoming MCU movie.

Fassbender has starred in many high-profile movies over the years, such as David Fincher's The Killer, Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs, and many more. To Marvel fans, he became well-known as the Magneto of the younger Fox X-Men timeline, starring in multiple X-Men movies. His latest appearance was in 2019's Dark Phoenix, prior to Marvel Studios being in charge of the X-Men again.

On Instagram, artist @filipe_sca imagined what Michael Fassbender's Magneto could look like if he were to return in Avengers: Doomsday or future Marvel movies.

The MCU fan art sees Fassbender don a sleek purple bodysuit with Magneto's "M" in white on his chest, purple gloves, and a long grey/purple cape. Magneto can also be seen sporting longer white hair, a look Fassbender never donned. The Magneto design is inspired by his classic Marvel Comics look and the character's design from X-Men '97 season 1.

Will Michael Fassbender's Magneto Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?

While the fan art shows that Fassbender could very well reinvent himself to play a new take on Magneto in the MCU, the actor's return as the famous Marvel villain in Avengers: Doomsday is looking unlikely. The main reason for that is simple, as Marvel Studios appears to have different plans when it comes to the mutants in the next Avengers movie.

No star from Fox's younger X-Men timeline has been announced as part of Avengers: Doomsday's cast. All the confirmed X-Men to appear thus far come from the movie franchise's original timeline, which includes names like James Marsden as Cyclops, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, and, more importantly, Ian McKellen as Magneto. A version of Erik Lehnsherr is already set to be in the movie, and it isn't Fassbender's.

How Michael Fassbender Could Still Play Magneto In The MCU After Avengers: Doomsday

That said, the actor could be a surprise that Marvel reveals throughout the film, perhaps as a cameo. However, Fassbender has a better chance of playing Magneto again a year later, appearing in 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars. While Doomsday is using many of Fox's original X-Men actors, the MCU could be saving Fassbender and the younger cast for the second Multiverse Saga Avengers movie.

There is also another alternative. At the time of writing, Michael Fassbender is 48 years old. He is in the perfect spot to play the main version of Magneto in the MCU's X-Men movies, with the mutants confirmed to be rebooted after Avengers: Secret Wars. The new fan art shows the potential there is in a fresh take on Fassbender's Magneto in Avengers: Doomsday and beyond.
