Michael Douglas announced a generous donation from him and his late father Kirk Douglas' foundation - amid the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.

The movie star, 80, took to his Instagram page on Saturday to reveal he asked the board of The Douglas Foundation - founded by Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne - to make a donation to the American Red Cross.

He added that he was planning to match the donation himself and donate his portion to American Red Cross.

Kirk passed away on February 5, 2020 at age 103, and Michael's stepmother Anne died at age 102 on April 29, 2021.

The devastating wildfires in LA have led to over 40,000 acres burned and 24 people killed.

Over 150,000 people have evacuated due to the massive infernos - with the Palisades Fire being the largest ongoing fire and the Eaton Fire as the second.

Michael started off the video with: 'How's everybody doing? we're off to a pretty rough start for this new year.'

'I don't live in LA but i know the city well. And this is just a nightmare tragedy. Not anything I could have comprehend it - probably anybody else,' he continued.

Adding: 'I know some people talked about the movie stars who lost have their homes, but a hell of lot of the people who have too. People who work in the industry. People who make an hourly wage. Republicans and Democrats,' Michael said.

'It's a huge, huge number of people who lost their homes and possibly don't have any insurance. I know most of you are aware of this so what are you going to do? My father Kirk [Douglas] and my stepmother they have a foundation and I asked the board to make a contribution that I'm going to match. So I'm going to try to get the ball rolling there,' he added.

'We are going to give our contributions to the American Red Cross. But I hope everybody across the country. This is not a question of blue states or red states. Republicans or Democrats. This is humanitarian. And this really, really is a major crisis.'

'So please please whenever you can, try to help everybody out. We are focusing on the Red Cross,' he concluded his video.

The Douglas Foundation was created by Kirk and Anne in 1964, with a focus on making healthcare, the arts and education more accessible to California citizens, per the website.

Michael and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones currently split their time between Bermuda and Europe, after putting their New York home on sale last summer.

They lived in a massive Irvington, New York mansion - which was 11,653 square feet -but put it in the market after their children Dylan, 24, and Carys, 21, moved out.
