He joined Collider as a News Author in April 2024, was promoted to a Senior position in December 2024, and has written over 3,000 articles for the site, including exclusives relating to Avengers: Doomsday, The Penguin, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and more. Michael B. Jordan just recently earned his first Oscar nomination for his commanding performance in Sinners, but another one of his most underrated films just got an exciting streaming update. In 2019, Jordan teamed up with Captain Marvel star Brie Larson and Jamie Foxx for Just Mercy, the gripping legal thriller following a world-renowned civil rights defense attorney who works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner. Just Mercy is not currently streaming anywhere in America right now, but HBO Max has announced that the film will be available to watch for all subscribers starting on February 1.

Just Mercy was a massive hit among both critics and audiences, earning a Certified Fresh 85% from the former and a nearly flawless Verified Hot 99% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. Warner Bros. spent only $25 million on the making of the legal thriller, but it grossed $50 million at the box office. It wasn’t a colossal success by any means, but it earned enough to avoid being branded a flop. Just Mercy has been compared to The Lincoln Lawyer, but it’s a much softer film that’s more calculated and less crime-focused. Still, fans of The Lincoln Lawyer are sure to enjoy Just Mercy, and vice versa.

Destin Daniel Cretton wrote the script for Just Mercy with Andrew Lanham, and it’s based on the book of the same name by Bryan Stevenson, who is played by Jordan in the film. Cretton is best known for his work directing the 2021 Marvel smash hit, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and he’s also been tapped to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He was, at one point, the favorite to direct the next Avengers movie before the job went to Anthony and Joe Russo.

When Does Michael B. Jordan’s Next Movie Come Out?

Michael B. Jordan has several exciting projects in the works. He’ll star opposite Austin Butler in a new Miami Vice movie, which will be released on August 6, 2027. Also coming in 2027 for Jordan is The Thomas Crown Affair, which is currently scheduled to premiere on March 5, 2027. Taylor Russell was attached to star in the film, but she backed out and was replaced by Adria Arjona. Jordan will also star opposite Will Smith in a sequel to I Am Legend, and he’s making another Creed movie.

Be sure to check out Just Mercy when it begins streaming on HBO Max on February 1, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
