Metroid Dread Drops in Price for Nintendo Switch Following the Metroid Ravenous Reveal

Metroid Dread already looks and runs great on the original Switch, but we've now seen what Nintendo is capable of doing with Metroid on Switch 2. Ravenous looks fantastic (I've already preordered as well!), and it has me thinking about how good Dread could look with a little extra horsepower backing it up.

I'd love to see higher-resolution visuals, improved performance and perhaps some of the other enhancements we've seen Nintendo bring to its other Switch 2 upgrades.

Dread doesn't need a complete overhaul, but a proper Switch 2 Edition would definitely be another very welcome excuse to jump back into Samus' most recent, and my favorite, 2D adventure.

We awarded Metroid Dread a 9/10 in its review. Here's what IGN's Samual Claiborn had to say: "Metroid Dread gets so much right after so many years that I almost feel resentful that we didn’t get this game and a few sequels in some steady cadence starting in 2005."

"But instead, I’m incredibly happy to play a Metroid that is back at the top of its game. Even though it’s the latest in a decades old series, Dread has just enough clever innovation to balance its familiarity."

"The universally recognizable mix of tough puzzles, tougher boss fights, ever-evolving exploration options, and intricate level design that recent games like Hollow Knight and Ori get so right has an origin point: It’s Metroid. I love those games, but the Metroid team, a mix of old and new developers now, have shown that they know how to do it best."

I know a lot of people who are jumping on the game right now after being impressed by the Nintendo Direct trailer for Metroid Ravenous. So if you're craving some 2D Metroid while we wait for the new release, Dread is an easy recommendation to say the least.

But, if you want to squeeze a little more out of the deal, there's also a way to reduce the cost of Dread further by buying Nintendo eShop credit at a discount.

Amazon currently has $10 Nintendo eShop gift cards for $8.98, meaning you can effectively get a little over $10 of spending power for less than $9. You can then use that credit to pick up Dread through the Nintendo eShop.

One small warning, though: I'd stick to buying no more than two gift cards at a time. Buying a bunch in quick succession can trigger Amazon's fraud or security checks, so there's little point risking your account over a few extra dollars of savings.

Either way, $42 is a pretty good price for Dread, particularly if Ravenous has put you in the mood for some more Metroid. And given how much I enjoyed Dread the first time around, I wouldn't need much convincing to play it yet again if Nintendo ever gives it the Switch 2 treatment as well. In all honestly, I've already reinstalled it!
