Metal Gear Solid: The Snakes Saga Officially Unveiled In New Trailer

Though Hideo Kojima has now entirely moved on from Metal Gear Solid, Sony are far from done with the franchise, and it's very easy to see why. The series remains one of the most consistently excellent in video game history, with every mainline single-player release scoring very well in the opinions of both fans and critics.

As such, abandoning it entirely because Kojima is no longer present doesn't really feel like a win for anyone, but there is an obvious reticence to work on a wholly new release. That leaves remakes and remasters as the best option for the time being, and a new trailer really shows fans what they can expect from the next drop.

Over on Reddit, one fan shared the brand-new trailer for The Snakes Saga, a story that "begins with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, continues through Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and leads to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots."

The trailer is designed to promote the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which essentially aims to free classic titles from archaic hardware, while also remastering several elements. The set includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, as well as the Game Boy Color title Metal Gear: Ghost Babel as a bonus game.

The big hitter in that bunch is obviously MGS4, and it's safe to say that fans in the responses were very excited to play it for the first time since the pS3 was relevant.

"I played and finished MGS4 8 times from June 2008 to early 2009 on my PS3. I cannot wait to replay it one more time on my PS5 Pro. Absolutely loved Peace Walker too, game is massive. And I never got to fully finish Ghost Babel," one comment read.

While another added, "Am I the only one who’s extra excited for Peace Walker? I never got to play it initially in co-op with my friends but now I can enjoy both solo and co-op."

It will be very interesting to see what Konami plans to do with Metal Gear moving forward, but as one of their most profitable video game IPs, don't expect them to step back from it entirely. The best bet might be to make some changes that differentiate it from Kojima's time a little, but comparisons are inevitable, and any new game has to hit impressive heights.
