Megan Fox's iconic 2009 horror comedy has just gotten a new update that presents the film's best chance at getting a revival over 15 years later. While Megan Fox rose to fame thanks to her early role in the Transformers franchise, the actor has appeared in much more than the sci-fi series over the years, with Fox having appeared in a wide range of films and genres during her time in the industry.
That said, one of the best movies to feature Megan Fox actually came out only two years after the original Transformers did, though it would enjoy less immediate success, becoming more of a hidden gem film of sorts compared to the 2007 movie's $700 million box office results. Box office results aren't everything, though, which has been proven in the modern day with the revival of a range of cult classics that have maintained a largely solid critical reception.
As such, there's plenty of reason to believe the lasting popularity of Megan Fox's 2009 horror could pave the way for a new sequel even this far down the line - and indeed, a number of fans have hoped for years to see this eventuality come true. Luckily for them, 2026 has just provided the tools that make a revival more possible than before for the film and franchise.
Jennifer's Body Releasing On Netflix Is A Great Way To Reignite The Movie's Popularity
Despite releasing almost two decades ago in 2009, Jennifer's Body remains one of the most interesting horror comedy films of all time, with the film working on a solely horror level, on a solely comedy level, and is equally strong as a more nuanced exploration of female friendships and gender roles, or simply a fun blood-soaked horror that isn't afraid to have some lighter moments.
Jennifer's Body has earned itself a lasting cult following as a result, though the most recent update about the film may give it the opportunity to be thrust into the limelight once more. This is because Jennifer's Body releases May 1st on Netflix, opening the gateway for countless new viewers to see the film, and encouraging those who've seen it before to give the film a rewatch.
Indeed, it would in some ways be more surprising if Jennifer's Body releasing on Netflix didn't mean the movie was then viewed by countless people, since the story falls into two movie genres that are some of Netflix's most popular, and the film's relatively short 102 minute runtime also makes it perfect for midweek or weekend watching, since it doesn't require a movie marathon to view in its entirety.
Given a considerable portion of the Jennifer's Body fanbase have discussed what a prospective second chapter could look like for the franchise, this is all the more interesting to note, as a revival of sorts for the original film's popularity is the exact kind of thing that would make a sequel or spinoff all the more likely.
Why A Jennifer's Body Sequel Or Spinoff Would Make A Lot Of Sense
While the propensity towards giving beloved cult classics sequels decades down the line is one that has led to some more controversial follow-ups for many film franchises, this is a move that seems as though it would be capable of seriously working for a story like Jennifer's Body.
First and foremost, the ending of Jennifer's Body tees things up so a follow-on story is definitely possible, with Needy gaining some of Jennifer's powers after their final conflict, and then deciding to slay the band that attempted to sacrifice her now-dead friend, teeing the formerly meek protagonist up to be something of an unlikely supernatural vigilante.
Similarly, the playful tone of Jennifer's Body means that having a story wherein Jennifer comes back from the dead once more thanks to her powers - or wherein Needy finds herself forced to bring Jennifer back in order to deal with a bigger threat - could work without feeling like it ruins the audience's ability to suspend their disbelief, particularly since the initial film underlines how strong Jennifer's healing powers could be.
So long as the writing and themes of a sequel or spinoff are as strong as the original - as so long as Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried were happy to return, which a strong script would encourage them to do - a Jennifer's Body follow-up could be a genuinely strong addition to the world of horror comedies, and seems more viable than ever if the original film undergoes another resurgence in popularity in 2026 thanks to Netflix.
