Amid the US takeover of TikTok and increasing violence from ICE agents, Meg Stalter is urging followers to delete the video platform.
On Sunday, the Hacks star called out the app for allegedly censoring her video in which she explained why she believes “Jesus would abolish ICE” as a Christian, encouraging others to follow her lead in leaving TikTok.
“Hi so today I will be downloading my videos and deleting my TikTok page,” Stalter wrote. “TT is under new ownership and we are being completely censored and monitored. I’m unable to upload anything about even after I tried to trick the page by making it look like a comedy video. Let’s delete the app love you!”
Stalter also shared instructions for how to download your videos before deleting the app, and she even offered to help boost followers’ profiles on other platforms to help them regain their own followings.
New social media restrictions have been expected to roll out after the Trump-backed TikTok USDS Joint Venture deal closed last week, requiring the platform to “operate under defined safeguards that protect national security through comprehensive data protections, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurances for US users.” No changes to the Community Guidelines have yet to be officially announced.
On Monday, TikTok USDS Joint Venure said in a statement, “Since yesterday we’ve been working to restore our services following a power outage at a US data center impacting TikTok and other apps we operate. We’re working with our data center partner to stabilize our service. We’re sorry for this disruption and hope to resolve it soon.”
In the video mentioned above, Stalter pleads as “a gay Christian person” for other people of faith to take a stand against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, following the recent killings of US citizens Alex Pretti, Renee Good and Keith Porter Jr.
“If you are someone who identifies as a Christian but supports ICE or the president, I want you to remember that Jesus was executed for challenging the system,” Stalter started in a prepared statement. “His life and teachings directly threatened the religious, economic and political power structures of his time, and he was murdered. If you are a follower of Christ, I strongly urge you to follow what the bible actually says.”
Quoting scripture, she recited, “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as native born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am Lord, your God.’
“You can argue the context of any scripture, but you can’t argue that God doesn’t want us to love our neighbors. And our neighbors are being hunted, and kidnapped, and attacked daily. Our government is killing people, and they are lying to us,” added Stalter. “The God that I worship is extremely angry about what is going on. I fully believe that. I believe he is extremely angry at our government. They are murdering people in front of us. We can not stop talking about this. We have to abolish ICE. I truly, truly believe that is exactly what Jesus would do.”
