Maura Higgins drops her Irish accent and sounds American in bizarre viral video from BAFTA red carpet

She's been spending most of her time in the US recently and now Maura Higgin has adopted an American accent.

A video circulating on TikTok shows the Love Island star greeting fans as she strutted down the red carpet at the EE BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday. 

Maura, 35, who is appearing on the current series of The Traitors US, mingled with the A-list at the prestigious ceremony at The Royal Festival Hall.

And it seemed that her time in States has rubbed off on her accent as she appeared to drop her Irish accent in favour of an American one when interacting with a fan.

Maura is heard telling the fan 'Hi, I'm good, nice to see you!'

When the fan compliments her look, Maura appears to adopt an American tone as she replies back: 'Thank you so much.'

At the event, Maura turned heads in a red form-fitting satin dress, with structured detailing across the chest and a dramatic train that followed her down the carpet. 

The statement gown, which featured delicate black beading, was teamed with a pair of black sheer opera gloves and minimal jewellery.

While Maura has yet to be nominated for any awards, she has just made her acting debut in Irish comedy, The Spin. 

Maura was said to have 'impressed big Hollywood executives' with her appearance.

However, Maura, who plays Rose in the feel-good road movie, has less than two minutes of air time in the 1 hour 32 minute film.

In a scene shortly after, she adds: 'Ugh Dermot can we please just do it tomorrow because I've had just such a long day and I'm knackered. Yeah I've had just such a long day.' 

After an hour of the movie passes, Maura returns to the screen and says just one more line.

The film follows Dermot (Brenock O'Connor) and Elvis (Owen Colgan), two music lovers who run a struggling record shop in Omagh, Northern Ireland.

Facing an unpaid rent bill and their vicious landlord Sadie (Derry Girls' Tara Lynne O'Neill), who's eager to get them out of her building, the pair stumble across a deal too good to be true: rare, vintage records of blues legend Robert Johnson for sale in Cork at a knock-down price.

If they can make it to the other end of Ireland in time, then maybe they could get the rare vinyl, and save the shop.

Muara recently celebrated her new US fame as she stepped out wearing tights embossed with the message 'Mom, I am a rich man'. 

She has proven to be hit with fans in the states as she made her glamorous debut on The Traitors US.

And after sharing her plans to crack America, Maura enjoyed all her glory as she posed for pictures at the viewing party in West Hollywood with her co-stars.

Maura looked the ultimate It girl in her glamorous ensemble, which she teamed with towering black YSL court heels and a dramatic faux fur coat.

The Irish star shot to fame on Love Island UK back in 2019 and has since taken on a number of reality gigs across the pond.

And her latest stint on The Traitors US is already looking like a success as fans heaped praise on the glamorous star.
