Rob David has been upped to senior VP, animation, Mattel Studios. David was previously vice president, content creative, television, for the studio. In his new role, David will now oversee development, creative, and production efforts for Mattel Studios’ adult and kids animated television series across broadcast and streaming platforms, as well as digital content including the company’s YouTube offerings.

David will continue to report to Mattel Studios president/chief content officer Robbie Brenner. David joins TV head Jennifer Breslow (unscripted and live-action), and senior film executives Darian Lanzetta and Tom McNulty to complete Brenner’s creative leadership team.

Previously, David led development and production for global brands including “Hot Wheels,” “Masters of the Universe,” “Barbie,” “Uno” and “Magic 8 Ball.” His animation credits include the TV shows “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” and “Hot Wheels: Let’s Race,” in addition to an upcoming stop-motion 3D animated “Pingu” series.

“I first learned to tell stories by playing with Mattel toys, so it’s an incredible honor to step into this role at such a pivotal time for Mattel Studios,” David said in a statement. “Mattel is a toy chest of storylines, and I’m passionate about expanding their reach through bold, innovative animated series and digital content. I look forward to collaborating with our talented teams, showrunners and partners to bring new creative visions to life for both adults and our next generation of fans around the world.”

Added Brenner: “Rob is a creative force who has been instrumental in shaping the next chapter of our animation strategy at Mattel Studios. Having started his career as a writer in animation, he brings a deep understanding of character-driven storytelling, a strong command of our brands, and the ability to build compelling worlds for both kids and adult audiences. That creative foundation, paired with his leadership, makes him the ideal person to drive our expanding animation slate, as we continue delivering high-quality content that resonates with audiences around the world.”
