Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 4.Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has put a lot of focus on the complex relationship between Keiko Miura and Lee Shaw. With every new episode, viewers are treated to a new chapter of that forbidden romance. That said, Monarch season 2, episode 3's ending seemed to put a definitive stop to the romance. Keiko wrote a letter to Lee to say it was over.

However, Bill Randa ended up finding that very letter years later. Episode 4 continues that storyline with two major developments. One of them happens in the past, as Billy reacts to his discovery, while the other is played out in the present, as the shocking moment is repeated by another character close to Keiko. Elsewhere, the Titan X and Apex plots also move forward.

What Hiroshi’s Shocking Discovery Means

Takehiro Hira as Hiroshi Randa in Monarch Legend Of Monsters

Like "father," like son. Billy served as a father figure in Hiroshi's life, and he ended up being the last parent that he had after Keiko disappeared for years inside the Axis Mundi. After Billy found Keiko's letter to Lee in the past, Hiroshi does the same at the very end of the episode. It is clear that he will be furious.

After all, the Apple TV sci-fi series has done a good job of representing how a young Hiroshi felt abandoned by Billy. At the start of the episode, we see that, after reading Keiko's letter, Billy packs his things and goes on a worldwide journey. We watch as his belongings get lost at sea for years before finding their way to Monarch in 2015.

While Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has not yet put all the pieces of the puzzle together when it comes to Billy's past, it is safe to say that, when Hiroshi reads that letter, what immediately goes through his head is how his mom and uncle are the true reason his dad went away. Judging by the stern look Hiroshi directs at Keiko, they are about to argue.

This also means that Hiroshi's love for both Kentaro and Cate's mothers should once again come into focus. As, without knowing, he ended up having a very similar life experience to his mother's. Will that be enough to calm him down after finding out that Keiko's actions led to him growing up without both of his parents? That remains to be seen.

Cate’s Return Explained

Anna Sawai as Cate Randa in Monarch

Cate has been adrift for some time now. At times in season 1, her trauma from G-Day slipped through, and her actions ended up being dictated by it. That was boosted by the fact that to repay Lee for saving her life, she brought him back from the Axis Mundi and ended up unleashing Titan X on the world.

In the end, it all became too much for Cate. That is why she needed time away from Monarch's operations, and only being back in the city that traumatized her would allow Cate to pick herself back up. In episode 4, Cate sees the positive impact she had on people even at the lowest point of her life, meeting a kid she saved during Godzilla's rampage through San Francisco.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Review: Titan X's Arrival Sees Past & Present Collide In Monsterverse-Defining Story

The Monsterverse gets an exciting new chapter as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 builds upon the first season's storylines in a heartfelt way.

After almost giving up in episode 3, that fateful meeting renews her energy, lighting a fire in Cate to help Kurt Russell's Lee Shaw and the others deal with Titan X. Cate's arc early this season is all about understanding that she does not want to be a bystander who can get killed by a kaiju out of the blue. She wants the power to save lives.

Cate should also be able to help others in understanding Titan X through a unique connection. In the present timeline, it has been shown that Cate can somehow sense the kaiju, something that was mirrored in the past by Keiko also being able to feel its arrival before Lee. Just how far that connection runs remains to be seen.

What’s Going On With Corah And Apex Explained

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 4's main present story focuses on Shaw and the rest of the gang trying to infiltrate Apex to get Hiroshi's device and stop Titan X. To do so, they are assisted by Corah/May, who is serving as a mole inside Apex on Tim's orders. However, things don't work as well as they had hoped.

After a series of close calls, the Monarch team ends up discovering that Hiroshi's device was already dismantled by Apex. That said, their mission is not entirely fruitless, as May discovers what Apex's plans for the monsters are. The corporation wants to use inhibitor chips to control the beasts. They would short-circuit the kaijus' natural aggression, rendering them docile.

As such, Apex's ultimate plan of co-existence, or at least the plan revealed to May, would be achieved if the latter stayed to help perfect the microchips, which currently only work for a brief time. Corah's code is the key to all of this, which leads to one of episode 4's most shocking moments. May stays behind to work with Apex.

Billy’s Game-Changing Findings Explained

Anders Holm as Young Bill Randa in Monarch Legacy of Monsters

Finally, Monarch season 2 reveals what Billy found in his travels. Randa was able to complete Titan X's migratory map, allowing Lee, Keiko, and the others to find out where the kaiju is headed next. After all, Apex's tracker was not really showing where Titan X was going. It was following a whale all along.

According to Billy's map, Titan X is going to a location the characters and the viewers know too well: Santa Soledad. It will be interesting to revisit the location decades after Billy, Lee, and Keiko first found out about Titan X there. With Cate back, by using her and Keiko's connection to Titan X and Billy's map, the team should be able to understand what the kaiju wants in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
