A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."
An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.
This summer, it looks like Amazon MGM Studios has the power. The trailer for the studio's upcoming live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe has racked up an impressive 32 million views on YouTube in a week, eclipsing fellow June 2026 tentpole Supergirl. Which one will prove to have fabulous secret powers at box office, however, remains to be seen. The first live-action movie from director Spencer Knight since 2018's Transformers film Bumblebee, and the first live-action outing for the venerable Mattel franchise since Dolph Lundgren's He-Man battled Frank Langella's Skeletor on the big screen in 1987, Masters of the Universe took social media by storm when it hit the internet last week.
Most details had been kept under wraps prior to the trailer's release, save for a couple of social media teases by stars Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes, so it was the general audience's first look at the high-tech barbarian world of Eternia and its denizens. The trailer was crammed with details, as well, rewarding repeat viewings for fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Mekaneck, Ram Man, or Spikor. The Supergirl trailer, meanwhile, showed off Milly Alcock's Supergirl and her faithful pup Krypto, both of whom were on display in last year's Superman; Jason Momoa's Lobo, meanwhile, was kept in the shadows until recently. However, don't count the Maid of Might out, if she can match her Kryptonian cousin's blockbusting ways.

What Is 'Masters of the Universe' About?
Galitzine stars as Adam Glenn, an office worker with a big secret: he's from the far-off planet Eternia, and was sent to Earth as a boy by his parents, King Randor (James Purefoy) and Queen Marlena (Charlotte Riley) to protect him from the skull-visaged warlock Skeletor (Jared Leto) as his evil warriors overran Castle Grayskull. Before long, however, he's back in action with his old friends Man-at-Arms (Idris Elba), Teela (Mendes), the Sorceress (Morena Baccarin), and Roboto (Kristen Wiig) as they face off against Skeletor and his minions, including the sinister sorceress Evil-Lyn (Alison Brie). Can Adam summon the power of Grayskull to become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe?
Neither Masters of the Universe nor Supergirl has amassed as much attention online as Christopher Nolan's adaptation of the ancient Greek epic The Odyssey. However, it is slated for a mid-July release, giving both films plenty of time to make hay before it arrives.
Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters on June 5; Supergirl will follow, three weeks later, on June 26. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
