Marvel's X-Men is finally returning.

The X-Men were first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby before their debut in The X-Men #1 in 1963. Lee originally wanted to call the team The Mutants, but switched to naming the group after their leader and powerful telepath, Professor Xavier. The original team included five teenage students named Cyclops, Jean Grey/Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Later, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler were introduced, and the franchise has been a huge success.

After Stranger Things reached its end, Sadie Sink has certainly established herself as more than a one-hit wonder after joining the MCU in one of the biggest releases of 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sink joined the movie as the terrifyingly powerful mutant Jean Grey and is set to appear in future MCU installments, including a new X-Men movie. In a report by Deadline about a potential new role for the actress, it was revealed that filming would begin early in 2027.

Marvel Studios did unveil that an X-Men reboot movie will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028, and is currently untitled. Jack Schreier (known for Thunderbolts*) is attached to direct, with Michael Lesslie, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo on board as writers. Of course, Sink will be reprising her role as Jean Grey alongside Kit Conor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.

Jean Grey has evolved as a character across animation, comics, and live-action blockbusters since her debut in 1963 as Marvel Girl. Famke Janssen portrayed an older Jean in the first live-action adaptation of the original movie trilogy, including X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand. Sophie Turner was placed in the role for X-Men: Apocalypse, and now Sink has stepped into the very powerful shoes of the Phoenix.

It is unclear if Sink will be featured in the upcoming MCU movie Avengers: Doomsday, but it seems likely her presence will be shown in Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be released on December 17, 2027, just before the X-Men reboot movie's release. Her appearance in Brand New Day has already solidified the unimaginable power that Sink's portrayal will bring to the MCU as the fanbase gears up for an epic reboot.
