Marvel's Official New Wolverine Is Dividing Fans

Wolverine really has been on a journey as a character over the years, really becoming one of the more beloved and iconic comic book figures in the eyes of many. A big part of that has been his appearances in other adaptations over the years, most notably Hugh Jackman's turn as the character in a myriad of movies and spin-offs.

Jackman's performance has become so closely tied to the character as a whole that any time another person steps into the role, there's bound to be plenty of discussion around it. Now, that situation is upon us once again, and fans really aren't sure what to think of the whole thing at this current juncture.

Over on Twitter/X, the page DiscussingFilm shared some additional screen grabs of Insomniac's upcoming release, Marvel's Wolverine, with particular attention to the character himself. Fans didn't respond overwhelmingly positively to what they have seen so far, with many putting the blame at the door of the developer.

"Why is Insomniac just terrible at making faces man," one response read, simply. While another added, "Insomniac's face models are always weird looking. That’s one department they really need to figure out. Every character they make looks so CHOPPED!"

"The face in the upper image looks off. The eyes just don't have any emotions in them in the upper image. I can't tell if he's mad, sad, or confused. Hopefully, they polish it a bit more before releasing the game," a third said.

While another added, "They just can't do faces at Insomniac. This doesn't look anything like Wolverine. He's usually got a really rough face with nearly feral features. This looks like a generic sitcom dad. His voice sounds nothing like I'd hoped, either, though, so I guess it's fitting."

Insomniac not delivering the facial appearance for Wolverine that players want isn't necessarily the be-all and end all for the game, particularly when you'll be moving about so much while playing. It's the cutscenes where those proverbial chickens come home to roost, but these screenshots of individual frames probably aren't the best way to judge those as a whole.

In reality, we just have to sit back and wait to see what Insomniac Games has been cooking up, but with Liam McIntyre in the role, it does feel like it's in very safe hands. Plus, we don't have too long to wait to try Marvel's Wolverine out for ourselves, with the game set to launch on September 15 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
