Avengers: Doomsday's first trailer has been out for some time, and after watching multiple teasers for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, the importance of the original footage has just grown. Marvel needs to get Avengers: Doomsday right. The franchise absolutely cannot fail when it comes to the upcoming MCU movie. After years of divisive releases, Marvel needs the return of the Avengers to be a hit.
The Avengers are the MCU's premier team, and their movies have always been surefire box office hits, as well as landed positively with critics. To that end, Avengers: Doomsday's cast has been filled with stars from all over the Marvel Studios shared universe, as well as players from other live-action Marvel properties, such as multiple actors from Fox's X-Men movie franchise.
At the moment, audiences are patiently awaiting the release of the first Avengers: Doomsday full trailer. However, they have already been treated to four character-focused teasers that were released in theaters with Disney's Avatar: Fire and Ash. The first of those Avengers movie teasers did a lot of the heavy lifting for the project, and it was clearly what the MCU movie needed.
In the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser, Marvel brought back Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. The footage showed Steve putting away the Captain America suit he wore in 2019's Avengers: Endgame and revealed that he had a baby with Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter. While Evans' MCU return and the fact that Captain America is a father would have been massive reveals for Avengers: Doomsday, they had to be in the trailer.
Marvel's First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Focused On The Hero It Had To
The reason for that is simple: Evans is one of the faces of the MCU alongside Doctor Doom actor Robert Downey Jr. By revealing he is back and with seemingly a key role, as Steve Rogers stars in the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Marvel is clearly hoping for a boost in ticket sales and fan excitement.
It seems to have worked, as the Cap trailer hit 54 million views and 526 thousand likes on Twitter alone, easily standing as the most-watched and most-liked Avengers: Doomsday teaser on the platform. If Marvel had not revealed it, Evans would have had to continue lying about his Avengers: Doomsday status for months, and the studio would not have been able to capitalize on the boost his involvement brings to the table.
Steve Rogers Can Be Avengers: Doomsday's Most Important Hero Without Taking Over The Movie
Additionally, the MCU's Multiverse Saga did not manage to make that many heroes fan-favorites on the level of the original Avengers. Just by showing up, Chris Evans' Captain America is instantly the biggest hero in the MCU movie. Showing him first was the best move for Marvel, and he does not even need to have a lot of screen time in Avengers: Doomsday to follow that up.
Given his decision to stay in the past with Peggy, Steve Rogers could have messed up with multiple timelines, creating an incursion, or a series of incursions, that leads to the film's multiverse emergency. With key appearances and by kickstarting Avengers: Doomsday's story, Evans' Captain America would fulfill the important role Marvel set up for him by making him the star of the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
