Eddie Brock has been Venom for decades, and he's very rarely strayed from that role. While there have been times that Eddie and the Venom symbiote have been separated, they've always found a way back to one another. Eddie has been Anti-Venom, the King in Black, Toxin, and Venom, but it seems that two of these titles won't be returning for a long time. With his "death" at the hands of Dylan Brock, Eddie's time as Venom is over, and Marvel has already revealed the next steps the original Lethal Protector will be taking.
It is currently unclear if the next Venom will be his son Dylan, or another character, but one thing is clear, Eddie Brock will no longer be Venom, or the King in Black.
The tricky thing about this death is the fact it is not Eddie Brock's death, it's simply the death of Eddie Brock as Venom. His decades-long run as the character is finally over, and someone else will be taking up the mantle. It is currently unclear if the next Venom will be his son Dylan, or another character, but one thing is clear, Eddie Brock will no longer be Venom, or the King in Black. That moment has passed, and that's what this death is all about. Eddie Brock himself can not be dead, as Marvel has already revealed Eddie Brock will become Carnage soon, and this death explains why.

But There's More To Eddie Brock's Story
Moving forward, Eddie Brock will no longer be the same iconic character that he has been for decades. Instead, he'll be taking up the mantle of Carnage next, likely due to the infection that forced his son to "kill" him in Venom War #4. While fans have known Eddie Brock as Venom for decades, it seems finally time that he puts this identity to rest, as someone new will take up the title and Eddie Brock will instead become Marvel's new Carnage. While Eddie had a good run, all kings need to leave their thrones eventually.
