Eddie Murphy Shares His Son Eric and Martin Lawrence’s Daughter Jasmin Welcomed First Baby
Martin Lawrence is embracing his grandpa era.
Days after Eddie Murphy confirmed his son Eric Murphy had welcomed a baby girl, Ari Skye, with Martin’s daughter, Jasmin Lawrence, the Big Momma’s House star celebrated his new role during a recent stop on his comedy tour.
"I'm a grandpa!" Martin excitedly told the audience in an Instagram video posted by Loni Love on April 20. "Me and Eddie Murphy share a grandchild!”
The fact that both of Ari’s grandfathers are comedians and actors also wasn’t lost on Martin. As the 61-year-old put it, “That baby is going to be funny as s--t."
Loni, 54, was equally as thrilled for her friend, writing in the caption of her video, “Last week we got the news on the road that @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 had the boo boo ! Martin was beyond thrilled, and we all felt the excitement!”
“Check out his reaction when he announced it to the audience!” The Real alum added. “Best wishes to both families and welcome to the world Ari Skye!”
Eddie first confirmed their blended family’s big news while attending the American Film Institute achievement award ceremony, where he was honored with the Life Achievement Award.
“They just had a baby girl,” the 65-year-old exclusively told E! News on the red carpet at the April 18 ceremony. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye.”
And while the Emmy winner has 10 kids of his own, he wasn’t keen on offering words of wisdom to his son and daughter-in-law, who tied the knot in 2025. Instead, Eddie said he prefers to lead by example.
“Oh, you don't give advice like that,” he shared. “You know, your kids don't go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”
“The stuff you be saying, they don't even pay that s--t no mind,” Eddie quipped. “They watch and see what you do. So, I don't give a lot of advice.”

Martin—who also shares Jasmin, 30, with ex-wife Patricia Southall, as well as daughters Iyanna Lawrence, 25, and Amara Lawrence, 23, with ex-wife Shamicka Gibbs—has also been vocal also been vocal about how he and Eddie are on the same page when it comes to their kids’ relationship.
“We are both protective,” the Bad Boys actor said during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show last May. “We want the best for our children. We let them do their own thing and make their choices and stay out of their business and let them find their way.”
