A riveting real-life action thriller starring Mark Wahlberg will soon be streaming for free. Wahlberg's action movies include Shooter, Lone Survivor, Uncharted, Flight Risk, Play Dirty, and The Italian Job. When it comes to action-comedies, he's starred in The Other Guys, 2 Guns, The Family Plan, The Family Plan 2, and Spenser Confidential, proving he has the comedic talents that work well alongside his prowess as an action movie star.

For his performance as Sergeant Sean Dignam in Martin Scorsese's The Departed, Wahlberg received an Academy Award nomination for his performance. David O. Russell's 2010 sports drama The Fighter features the star in the main role of Micky Ward, and it received a Best Picture nomination. While Wahlberg is often associated with these Oscar-nominated movies, it's his 2016 action thriller film Patriots Day that is coming to free streaming.

Mark Wahlberg's Patriots Day Is Coming To Tubi

On November 1, Patriots Day will begin streaming on Tubi, which is a free ad-supported streaming platform that doesn't require a subscription. The movie is based on the real-life story of the Boston Marathon bombings and the search that followed for those responsible. Wahlberg plays Boston Police Department Sergeant Tommy Saunders, who is on security duty during the citywide event and jumps into action to help civilians who are injured or need help finding their loved ones amid the violence and its fallout.

Other members of the cast include Kevin Bacon as FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers, John Goodman as Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Michelle Monaghan as Tommy's wife Carol Saunders (who is also a registered nurse), J.K. Simmon as Watertown Police Sergeant Jeff Pugliese, Alexx Wolf as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Themo Melikidze as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and Rachel Brosnahan as Jessica Kensky, who lost her legs in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Patriots Day Is An Underrated Mark Wahlberg Movie

Patriots Day did not receive the same kind of recognition as The Departed or The Fighter did, but its positive reviews prove that it is one of the actor's more underrated films. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a "Certified Fresh" 80% score based on 237 reviews from critics and an 86% audience score based on more than 25,000 ratings. The critics' consensus states that "Patriots Day offers a stirring, solidly crafted tribute to the heroes of a real-life American tragedy without straying into exploitative action thriller territory."

Compared to Wahlberg's other action movies, Patriots Day has a higher critics' score than Shooter, Lone Survivor, Uncharted, Flight Risk, Play Dirty, and The Italian Job, The Other Guys, 2 Guns, The Family Plan, The Family Plan 2, and Spenser Confidential. The harrowing real-life story and the way it is depicted sets the film apart from some of the actor's other work.
