Mario Adrion Sets March Launch For Debut Stand-Up Special ‘My Struggle’

EXCLUSIVE: German-American comedian Mario Adrion has announced that his debut special, My Struggle (a tongue-in-cheek nod to Hitler’s Mein Kampf), is set to premiere globally on YouTube at 9 a.m. PT on Tuesday, March 10.

Check out a trailer above.

Filmed across four sold-out shows at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles, the special sees Adrion tackle his cultural experience as a German comedian living in America, exploring his German guilt, his German/Jewish marriage, and how Los Angeles is a bit different from his small hometown where he grew up chopping wood in the Black Forest. Through stories about punctuality and efficiency, cross-cultural misunderstandings, and blind ambition, he aims to demonstrate that his outsider perspective is one of his greatest assets (in addition to his “fire bone structure,” of course).

Adrion self-financed the hour, which is a co-production between his ITSAMEE Corporation production company and All The Toys Productions. It’s directed by Patrick Muhlberger and exec produced by Adrion, as well as Bill Dawes, Stephen Gordon Walker, and Jordan Henry.

“I’m officially the first German comedian to film a comedy special in America. The bar for German comedy may not be high, but someone had to raise it,” Adrion said. “‘My Struggle’ is about my experience of being a European trying to understand America – using sharp, efficient punchlines, superior act outs and smart social commentary. My mom was never proud of me but I’m proud of this special. Go watch it, ja?”

Adrion taped his special in January, at the tail end of The German Efficiency Tour, which he’s taken around the world over the past few years, with sold-out shows across the U.S., UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Subsequently, he embarked on The Superior Comedy Tour, his biggest international tour yet, where he’s playing both clubs and theaters.

Building his following at an elevated pace, Adrion a little over a year had just 150K on Instagram. But now, he has 1.8 on that platform alone, and 4 million in total, who’ve found him through comedy content posted across the web. His global audience is, on one level, a natural byproduct of the fact that he speaks four languages: English, German, Spanish and French.

A retired male model, the comic is represented by Gersh and WalkTheWalk.
