After completing a full week of release in theaters worldwide, the controversial new film Wuthering Heights has successfully doubled its production budget at the box office. The movie has received divisive reviews, with some questioning director Emerald Fennell's perceived inaccurate interpretation of Emily Brontë's 19th-century novel, while others defend her bold vision as a refreshing change of pace in the otherwise proper period drama genre. Starring Margot Robbie, Wuthering Heights was able to overtake two of her recent period dramas — Amsterdam and Babylon — in its opening weekend alone. And after 10 days in theaters globally, it has overtaken an equally outrageous film of the same genre.
