MAFS bride Rhi Disljenkovic breaks down in tears as she reveals she thought she would marry her ex Jeff Gobbels and why she eventually left him: 'I felt like a fraud'

Married At First Sight star Rhi Disljenkovic has revealed why she walked away from her relationship with Jeff Gobbels, admitting she once believed the pair would marry for real.

The 36-year-old became emotional as she reflected on their romance and confessed she was 'really unhappy' towards the end. 

Appearing on the Life Uncut podcast with hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, Rhi said she grew increasingly frustrated at being the person who repeatedly initiated conversations about marriage, children and their future.

Rhi also addressed speculation about infidelity during the candid interview, saying the rumours were difficult to shake as doubts about the relationship mounted. 

'Jeff's 41, I'm 36. And when you do get older, as you know, you don't just ride the wave like you would in your 20s, where you're like, 'Let's just see how things go,' she explained.

'Obviously we had our fake wedding on TV, and I wanted to be someone's wife. I wanted to be a mum. I wanted my life to progress.'

Rhi said she found herself having the 'same conversations on repeat' as she sought clarity about where their relationship was heading. 

'Getting married, having children, planning holidays - just planning anything together, really,' she continued.

'I like having a plan, but also knowing that my partner has the exact same plan as well. And I found that I was the one bringing up the conversations on the future quite a lot.'

Rhi admitted the relationship initially felt like the fairytale she had always wanted after the couple left the Channel Nine dating experiment together.

'At the start of [MAFS], even coming off the show, moving out, I felt lucky,' she said.

'I'm like, 'Everyone wants the love story, and I got it.' And I would just pinch myself because I thought to myself, 'I just can't believe I got this.'

However, Rhi said her feelings gradually changed as messages from fans praising the pair's seemingly perfect romance began to clash with the reality behind closed doors.

'As time went on, I would still receive messages about how lucky we are, and I started not to feel lucky,' she confessed.

'I started to feel like - I don't know if fraud is the right word - but fake.' 

She said she did not want to have to ask her partner to behave in a certain way to make her feel loved or secure.

'You don't want to have to ask your partner to act a type of way or be a type of way towards you,' she said.

'You want to feel that love and that genuine want to build a future.'

Rhi described the romance as a relationship that was simply 'not right', rather than a wholly bad one.

'I wouldn't say a bad relationship. Obviously, breakups can bring out the worst in people, and I feel like we definitely didn't bring out the best in each other at the end,' she told the hosts.

'But in terms of how the relationship was as a whole, I wouldn't call it a bad relationship, because there was a lot of good about Jeff and that's why we were together.

'I wouldn't stay in something that is terrible. But at the same time, towards the end, I was really unhappy.'

Despite the painful ending, she acknowledged there had been genuine happiness between the pair before their plans for the future began to diverge.
