This Lord Of The Rings RPG Has Been Kept Secret And Safe

Lord of the Rings: Age of the Ring is an extremely unique fan-created mod for the Battle for Middle-earth II: Rise of the Witch King 2006 strategy RPG that is arguably one of the best-kept secrets in gaming. It aims to create an authentic real-time strategy RPG experience "that is faithful to the spirit of the Tolkien mythos, with diverse, engaging and balanced gameplay."

The mod "features dozens of new heroes, units, spells and abilities as well as new maps and a campaign following the journey of the Fellowship of the Ring." It's been in active development for years and is getting continuous updates with additional features, factions, and gameplay improvements, and it's easily one of the best LOTR video game experiences on offer.

The Age of the Ring mod expands upon the base Battle for Middle-Earth 2 foundation, increasing the number of factions you can play and introducing a full campaign story mode that is a lore-accurate depiction of both Tolkien's original tale and Peter Jackson's film adaptations. It's widely hailed among LOTR enthusiasts as one of the most authentic overhaul mods, and there's even a brand-new Return of the King story campaign in the works.
