Linda Cardellini has been cast in a lead role opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the upcoming HBO dark comedy limited series “DTF St. Louis,” Variety has learned.

HBO gave the series a seven-episode order in November. It was originally announced as being in development back in 2022 with Harbour and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. It was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.” However, the creative direction of the series evolved over time and it is now based on a wholly original idea with no connection to the original article and with Pascal no longer involved.

The official logline now states the show is “about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead.” Cardellini will play Carol.

Cardellini is a three-time Emmy nominee — one for “Mad Men” and two for “Dead to Me.” Her other TV roles include “Freaks and Geeks,” “ER,” and “Bloodline.” She currently lends her voice to the DC animated series “Creature Commandos” and will next be seen in the Netflix dark comedy “No Good Deed,” which reunites her with “Dead to Me” creator Liz Feldman. In film, Cardellini is known for her role in the “Scooby-Doo” live-action franchise as well as features like “Brokeback Mountain,” “The Founder,” and for playing Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She can currently be seen in the Hulu film “Nutcrackers” opposite Ben Stiller and just wrapped “Way of the Warrior Kid” for Apple.

She is repped by CAA, Shelter PR, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Steven Conrad serves as writer, showrunner, executive producer, and director. Both Harbour and Bateman will executive produce, with Bateman doing so under his Aggregate Films banner. Additional executive producers include: Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Molly Allen; Bruce Terris; Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films; Kristina Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; and MGM Television.
