To everybody's surprise, one hit Steam game has been made completely free to download, combining a stunning artstyle reminiscent of Stardew Valley with the action RPG elements familiar to our favorite The Legend of Zelda entries.
Available to download for free, ahead of its upcoming sequel, it sits at a 'Very Positive' rating on Steam, so if you missed out on it during its initial launch back in 2018, do not make the same mistake twice.
Steam's Latest Freebie Is Not One To Miss
The game in question is none other than Moonlighter, an action RPG with rogue-lite elements which follows the story of Will, an adventurous shopkeeper who dreams of becoming a mighty hero. Developed by Digital Sun, Moonlighter has received multiple updates since its launch, welcoming new mini-bosses, gear, over 100 new room layouts, Companions, deeper lore, and a New Game+ mode packed with fresh challenges.
During a long-passed archaeological excavation, a set of Gates were discovered. People quickly realized that these ancient passages lead to different realms and dimensions – providing brave and reckless adventurers with treasures beyond measure. Rynoka, a small commercial village, was founded near the excavation site providing refuge and a place for adventurers to sell their hard-earned riches.
In Moonlighter, you will experience the two sides of Will's life. By day, you will run a shop in Rynoka village, putting items on sale, setting their price, managing the gold, recruiting assistants, and decorating the shop. At night, you will fight enemies and bosses as you master combat mechanics. By having complete control over your weapons, you will need to master critical timing and careful positioning.
However, there are also the villagers to meet, in typical Stardew Valley-esque fashion. As you restore the prosperity of the village, you will meet all manner of diverse characters who will help you on your journey. On top of that, there will be time for crafting, resource gathering, looting, and the chance to befriend your loyal companions.
When Does Moonlighter 2 Release?
Gates lead to different worlds. Each run is unique and forces you to make smart and calculated decisions. You never know what you will encounter next – that’s why you must be prepared for everything.
As mentioned, Moonlighter is now 100% free to download on Steam ahead of the launch of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which is currently available in early access. So, if you are on the lookout for an action RPG/rogue-lite experience, look no further than this 2018 gem.
