EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominated writer-director Lee Knight has signed with United Agents and TFC Management.

Knight is an Oscar hopeful with his debut short film A Friend of Dorothy, starring Miriam Margolyes in the title role as well as Stephen Fry and breakout star Alistair Nwachukwu. It is nominated in the best live action short category at the upcoming Oscars and Knight recently told Deadline about his plans for a feature length version of his film.

He will be managed by Cecily Pierce, Danielle Robinson and Brett Rosen at TFC Management in the U.S. and represented at London-based United Agents by Christian Ogunbanjo and Jonny Jones in the UK. Catherine Lyn Scott at London Flair is across PR.

A Friend of Dorothy premiered at London’s Raindance Film Festival before going on a long festival run and landing an Oscar nom. In Europe it has been picked up by Disney+.

The film tells the story of an intergenerational friendship between octogenarian Dorothy (Margolyes) and JJ (Nwachukwu). She lives alone and wants companionship. He is a young man and budding performer who is coming to terms with his sexuality. Inspired by Knight’s real-life friendship with his late neighbor, the film is executive produced by Stephen Daldry and Sonia Friedman.

Knight spoke to Deadline about the film shortly after its landed its Oscar nom. An actor by training, he broke down his plans to adapt his short into a feature under his Filthy Gorgeous Productions banner. “That’s what I’m working on at the moment,” he says. “I know how the [feature-length] story plays out… there’s just so much more I want to explore. I feel like [the short] is the tip of the iceberg.”
