Grand Theft Auto 6 is the talk of the entire gaming industry this year, but it's rare to get any official updates on the topic. While the game's November 19 release date has been confirmed for months, developer Rockstar Games is making fans wait for the third trailer, forcing them to entertain themselves with idle speculation and occasionally absurd conspiracy theories.
For the first time in a while, though, this week has contained some official updates on GTA 6. First, publisher Take-Two Interactive reiterated the November 19 date in an earnings report, assuaging fears of another delay. Now, Xbox has officially lent a voice to the conversation.
The official XBOX account on X shared an image of Grand Theft Auto 6 art, simply captioning it "November 19th" and providing a link to wishlist the game on the Xbox store. This post doesn't come with any new information or teases, but that hasn't stopped it from sending ripples through the Xbox community.
A comment from NikTek asks "why post this now, what's happening?", raising the question of whether any new reveals are on the way. Most of the replies suggest that Xbox is simply building on the release date reiteration from the Take-Two earnings report. With so much uncertainty in recent months, it's nice to have another vote of confidence.
Others are simply having fun with the announcement, sharing images of outdated Xbox hardware along with captions about their hype. These range from the Xbox One to Dio's post of an Xbox 360 CRT setup, which, shockingly, would stand no chance of running the next Grand Theft Auto installment.
While last week's rumors of a third trailer dropping on May 18 didn't pan out, the hype for more news to drop soon isn't yet abating. Others have claimed or simply speculated that Rockstar will open preorders next week. For the moment, however, it's safer to assume that we might have to wait out most of the summer before getting any more hard news.
Regardless, it's a great time to own an Xbox, as GTA 6 won't be coming to PC until a later date. Even with recent hardware price increases, sales of both the Xbox Series X/S and the PlayStation 5 are likely to spike before release. Grand Theft Auto 6 is a juggernaut, and we're entering the final stretch of everyone bracing themselves for it to hit the market this November.
