Larry the Cable Guy reveals why he doesn't 'worry' about performing stand-up comedy in 'woke' America

'Larry the Cable Guy' aka Daniel Lawrence Whitney weighed in on performing stand-up comedy about hot button topics like politics, race, gender and sexuality in the United States.

'I don't worry about it,' the Nebraska-born, Florida-raised 63-year-old told Us Weekly last Thursday.

'I already got a pretty good, built-in following and I've got some awesome fans. You know, if I think it's funny I'm going to do it and we'll see where it goes.'

Whitney - who has no upcoming scheduled stand-up dates - went on to compare the country's freedom and democracy to soda pop.

'Find the one you like and don't bi*** about the others,' the born-again Christian said.

'Somebody doesn't want to like your act then don't go see that person's act. It's as simple as that.'

Whitney praised fellow blue-collar comedian Shane Gillis for his ability to triumph in his career after 'getting canceled' and fired from the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2019.

The year prior, the 38-year-old funnyman had uttered homophobic and racist slurs on Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast, which resurfaced upon the announcement of his hiring on the NBC sketch show.

'I think Shane Gillis pretty much proved to everybody that you can get canceled and if you wanna double down on that, that's what people want you to do because they're sick of it too,' the two-time Grammy nominee said.

'Shane Gillis got even more popular after he got fired from Saturday Night Live for being "too woke" from stuff he did 10 years ago, you know? And now look at him.'

Gillis - who did not apologize - went on to host Saturday Night Live in 2024 despite previously admitting he 'was always a Mad TV guy anyway.'

In 2019, the 6ft 4in comic - who reportedly boasts an $8 million fortune - self-financed a sitcom called Tires, which turned into six episodes when Netflix bought his pilot in 2024.

The third season of Gillis' auto shop workplace comedy premieres August 13 on the streaming giant.

Meanwhile, Whitney - who's released seven comedy albums - endorsed Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election.

On August 2, the Git-R-Done star and his wife, author Cara Whitney, will celebrate the 20th birthday of their son Wyatt, who's serving as a US Army Cavalry Scout.

The married couple of 21 years - who live on a 180-acre farm in Lincoln, Nebraska - are also proud parents of 18-year-old daughter Reagan.

Whitney will next executive produce and host the 52-episode clip show American Mayhem, premiering in syndication this fall, similar to America's Funniest Home Videos.

The It's A Gift producer-star will reprise his voiceover role as Mater in Travis Braun and Frank Montagna's upcoming animated spin-off series Cars: Lightning Racers, which premieres July 2027 on Disney+ and Disney Jr.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Whitney's rep for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
