Kyle Sandilands says a text message led him to question Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's marriage

Kyle Sandilands has revealed he suspected Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's relationship was in trouble when the country singer reached out to him before their split was confirmed.

The former radio star, 55, revealed on Wednesday's episode of his new show that Urban, 58, reached out to him with a telling clue, shortly before he and Kidman, 59, publicly parted ways in September 2025.

'Before it was announced, Keith sent me a text ... he was coming out to Australia. He's a good guy. He sent me a text saying, "Bro, when I get there we MUST catch up",' Kyle began. 

He said he later believed Keith's text may have been a subtle attempt to reach out for support.

'I looked back at that and thought, "aha". I didn't realise what he was saying then,' Kyle explained.

He then shared his thoughts as to why the former power couple parted ways after almost 20 years of marriage. 

'Keith is a really nice guy and Nicole is super sweet as well. Some of these relationships just come to a natural end,' he said. 

'When you're in the spotlight like these two, who are really quite private, they don't air the dirty laundry.

'They are just two really sweet people. I like them very much. I'm not taking sides.'

Kyle also suspected Keith and Nicole's relationship was on the rocks during a past appearance on the axed Kyle & Jackie O show.

At the time, Kyle asked what he thought of his then-wife's steamy sex scenes in movies, to which Keith appeared uncomfortable.

'When Keith came on the show live during a tour on the old radio show, he was quite prickly about that topic,' Kyle said on his Wednesday broadcast. 

'I think I said to him, "Mate, I can't watch your wife's films. I can't watch her banging these young hotties - they're too graphic - and I know her as your wife." And he was like, "Yeah, next question". I was quite shocked.

'I thought, there's something going on there. But then again, because they were such a great couple, I just dismissed my feelings as stupidity.'

Even Kyle's former staffers agreed something was off about Keith at the time.

'We all went off air and went "Oh that's some real feelings there",' producer Jaimee 'Mayo' Blazquez said. 

It follows reports claiming Keith was heartbroken after learning his former wife had reportedly moved on with a new man. 

According to New Idea, the singer was 'absolutely devastated' by claims Nicole had begun a romance with private equity businessman Michael Reinstein following the end of their marriage.

The Oscar-winning actress was reportedly seen looking affectionate with Reinstein during a recent outing, with photographs appearing to show the pair holding hands and sharing a kiss. 

An insider quoted by New Idea claimed the images came as a painful blow to Keith, who allegedly continued to hope he and Nicole might one day repair their relationship. 

'Up until now, the door had been firmly closed on his relationship with Nicole,' the insider alleged.

'But now he still had hopes there might be a chance at reconciliation. He's absolutely devastated and is going through that feeling of deep loss all over again.'

The source further claimed that seeing Nicole apparently moving forward had prompted the Blue Ain't Your Colour singer to reassess his own romantic future.

'Seeing Nicole seemingly moving on is permitting him to do the same,' the insider said.

Keith is nevertheless said to be wary of entering a high-profile relationship, with the source claiming he would prefer to keep any future romance private.

'Don't be surprised if Keith steps out with a 'revenge romance' of his own,' the insider alleged.

'He knows he has to move on.'

Nicole and Keith were married for nearly two decades and share two daughters.
