Kayla Itsines has revealed the shock health diagnosis she has received following severe burnout.

The fitness entrepreneur, 35, shared a clip on social media on Tuesday night, announcing she had been diagnosed with the Epstein-Barr virus, an infection that causes chronic fatigue and fever.

'Two months ago I was really struggling with extreme brain fog and fatigue. I went to the doctor's; it came back positive for EBV, which makes a lot of sense,' Kayla began.

'I sat down with my doctor. He said I was massively burnt out and needed to slow down and regulate my nervous system.'

Kayla said the diagnosis was a significant shock to her, because she had built her lifestyle around always being active.

'I said, 'I'm not sure'. As a high-performing perfectionist, there is no slowing down for me,' she said.

It comes after Kayla raised eyebrows by sharing her unusual shower habits.

Posting to Instagram in December, Kayla revealed that she has several non-negotiables when it comes to her hygiene routine.

'I don't want to say OCD without getting properly diagnosed, but I won't leave the shower if I don't brush my teeth twice, wash my face twice and wash my body in a certain order,' Kayla began.

Kayla added she needed her full concentration when doing so to prevent a distraction, which would make her go back to square one.

'If anyone distracts me or I forget how many times I have done it, I have to do it all over again,' she wrote.

'Yeah, that's where I'm at, haha.'

Kayla first shot to fame more than a decade ago with her Bikini Body Guide e-book.

This evolved into the internationally successful Sweat fitness platform, which she co-founded with her ex-fiancé Tobi Pearce.

The personal trainer landed on the Australian Financial Review Young Rich List in 2024 at number 34.

She placed just a few spots behind Hollywood superstar Margot Robbie.

In 2025 Kayla placed number 40 on the Aussie line-up, with her fitness empire valued at an astonishing $176million.
