How Kimora Lee Simmons Explained Her Glam Mugshot to Her Daughters

Kimora Lee Simmons and her husband Tim Leissner are parting ways legally.

Leissner—a former Goldman Sachs banker who pled guilty in 2018 to stealing millions of dollars from the Malaysian government—signed paperwork to initiate their divorce two days before he started a two-year prison sentence in February. The court documents were then filed April 20, per the petition obtained by E! News.

Leissner, who married the Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane star in March 2014, listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the breakup after 12 years of marriage.

He requested joint custody of their 11-year-old son Wolfe, as well as spousal support from the Baby Phat founder. He also asked the court to terminate Lee Simmons' ability to receive alimony.

E! News has reached out to Lee Simmons' rep for comment but hasn't heard back.

Leissner signed the divorce papers on Feb. 4. His attorney Henry Mazurek told Bloomberg that the 56-year-old surrendered himself to a federal correctional facility in Pennsylvania on Feb. 6.

Leissner is scheduled to be released on Sept. 29, 2027, per prison records reviewed by E! News.

During his sentencing last year, Leissner expressed remorse in his involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, in which U.S. authorities estimate saw $4.5 billion stolen from a state-owned investment fund aimed to promote economic growth in the Asian country.

"First and foremost, I offer my sincere apology to the people of Malaysia," he told the court at the time, per Reuters. "I deeply regret my actions."

Lee Simmons, 50, has not publicly addressed Leissner's legal problems. However, the designer—who also shares two adult daughters with her first husband Russell Simmons and a teenage son with ex Djimon Hounsou—alluded to her and Leissner's breakup in a December interview with E! News, saying, "I've changed jobs, careers a few times, husbands, investments."

"I am a boy mom. I was a girl mom," she continued. "It's life."
