Leo uses his writing not only as a creative outlet but also to fund his lifestyle of travel and adventure. For four years, he has been hopping from country to country, meeting new people, eating new foods, and struggling to learn new languages.
Kid Rock and RFK Jr. have certainly broken social media fitness norms by using themselves as the models for the health secretary's new campaign. A video released on Instagram shows the two aging men pumping iron, eating healthily, and going shirtless in an effort to encourage other US citizens to do the same.
The point being made by Kid Rock, 55, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 72, is a positive one. It's all about working out, eating healthily, and drinking whole milk, too. The video is very much in the style of Kid Rocks image. featuring explosions, a jumping shark, and of course, his music. The pair of them are shown walking around a home gym and using the equipment. They then proceed to strip off their shirts and even get into a plunge pool in jeans.
Neither Rock nor Kennedy are in bad shape for their age, and so the message carries across well. Staying in shape in later life is never a bad thing, and the US has a serious health problem related to food and exercise. The campaign encourages people to work out and eat real food.
The public reaction to the unexpected video of a half-nude rocker and politician getting sweaty has been mixed. Of course, the message is a good one: eat well and stay healthy, and make sure you include whole milk. Plenty of people around the US can get behind it. However, 'real food', as it's called by RFK, isn't readily available for a reasonable price in the US.
Health is reserved for the wealthy in the US, with counties experiencing over 35% living in poverty seeing obesity rates 145% higher than wealthier ones. It's all well and good promoting a healthy lifestyle, but gyms aren't free, and fast food is significantly cheaper than fresh. The problem, as many have highlighted in the comments, isn't about choice; it's about what's financially available.
RFK Jr. is pushing for the US to stop using ultra-processed food and move towards healthier alternatives. He, along with Kid Rock, is also hoping to encourage people to get into the gym, or at least take up some kind of exercise. However, the video is a little tone-deaf, showing off one of their luxury homes, complete with a private pool, spa, and gym, a huge kitchen, and a convertible.
But the thought is there.
