This spring, MGM+ is growing its list of incredible content with the arrival of American Classic, a comedy series that sees Kevin Kline, Laura Linney and John Tenney in leading roles. Today, we at Collider are thrilled to exclusively debut the title’s official trailer, which perfectly captures the hysterical hijinks and varying highs and lows that the project’s main character will undergo during the eight-episode series. Hailing from Michael Hoffman (The Best of Me) and Bob Martin (The Prom), the two-episode premiere is slated for an arrival on Sunday, March 1 with new installments releasing weekly until the show’s finale on April 12.
Broadway icon Richard Bean (Kline) is at his lowest point when we meet him in our exclusive first look at the trailer for American Classic. He’s just received a devastating review that knocked him back a few pegs and — to make matters worse — his brother calls him to break the gut-wrenching news that their mother has passed. Despite not seeing her for years, Richard takes it upon himself to rush home and take care of his family during these trying times. Upon his arrival, he’s immediately haunted by the burnt bridges of his past, which include his brother’s (Tenney) wife, who just so happens to be his ex-girlfriend (Linney). When a casino threatens to tear the small town apart, Richard hatches a plan that will breathe life back into the arts and save his beloved hometown from its potential downfall.
Joining the trio leading the charge behind the emotionally-driven story is an ensemble that includes the talents of Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Len Cariou (Blue Bloods), Nell Verlaque (Thanksgiving), Jessica Hecht (Eleanor the Great), Aaron Tveit (Gossip Girl), Ajay Friese (Riot Girls), Billy Carter (Titanic: Blood and Steel), Stephen Spinella (Bad Education), Elise Kibler (The Night Agent) and Jane Alexander (All the President’s Men).
What Else Does MGM+ Have on the Way?
Keeping up with the competition, MGM+ has already made a name for itself as a streamer with a strong lineup of smashingly successful original content. In addition to Kline’s latest collaboration with Hoffman in American Classic, the platform has a multitude of other promising titles on the way over the next year. Later this month, Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) and Sam Claflin (Lazarus) will take audiences on a globe-trotting adventure in the pulse-pounding miniseries, Vanished. Also on the way is the highly-anticipated live-action series, Spider-Noir, the fourth season of the dark sci-fi project, From, as well as the second season of Stephen King’s The Institute.
