Kevin Costner's new Western TV has earned a promising score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Gray House, which saw all eight episodes come out on Prime Video, has earned a positive score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Produced by Costner and starring Mary-Louise Parker, The Gray House's story focuses on the real, secret exploits of four women who served as spies for the Union in the American Civil War.

Now, enough reviews have been complied on Rotten Tomatoes to reveal a critical consensus for The Gray House. As of writing, the series holds a 60% score based on its first five reviews. This is a promising start for the show, as the score means it's still considered a good watch by the majority of critics who've reviewed it.

Based on the series' positive reviews, The Gray House offers a compelling look into the lives of women who made unsung contributions to the Union's eventual winning of the Civil War. This is further elevated by the series' high-quality production value, which makes it feel like the show is taking place in the mid-1800s.

Not every aspect of the series is perfect, though. According to the testimony of some more scathing reviews, the show feels akin to a summary of the accomplishments of the woman involved, with a number of embellishments to make things more dramatic. This is compounded by dialogue and performances that could have more bite to them.

Costner serves as an executive producer on The Gray House alongside Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary, Rod Lake, Howard Kaplan, and Leslie Greif. While Parker is the star of the show, it follows an ensemble cast of characters portrayed by Amethyst Davis, Daisy Head, Keith David, Hannah James, and Darrell Fetty among many others.

Since The Gray House only just came out on Prime Video today, February 26, 2026, it'll be some time before a wider audience consensus is formed. But, so far, it seems that critics are mostly happy with the way the show turned out, despite some notable flaws. It helps that it tells an untold story in American history through a dramatized lens.

Because The Gray House has only just been released, its success is likely to continue evolving over the coming days. As for its initial critical reception, the show seems more likely to garner more positive reviews than negative as more come rolling in. So far, it seems like a promising start for the Civil War era show.

All episodes of The Gray House are streaming on Prime Video.
