Bangkok-based Mbrella Films has commenced production on its inaugural American feature, the thriller “Blood on the Ice,” which is currently shooting on location in central Illinois.
The project, co-produced with IB Films, is helmed by director Justin Hayward and produced by Adam Pray. Kelli Garner (“The Aviator,” “Lars and the Real Girl”) leads the cast, joined by Jake Connelly (“Stranger Things”) and former Chicago Bears defensive end Israel Idonije. Stephen Fletcher and Darren Weninger serve as executive producers.
The character-driven thriller unfolds against the backdrop of a harsh Midwestern winter, utilizing the extreme environment as a key dramatic element. Post-production is scheduled to take place in Thailand under Mbrella Films’ oversight.
“I’m very happy that Mbrella Films is able to support this project, as this is the type of film that’s becoming increasingly difficult to make,” Pray said. “‘Blood on the Ice’ is a lean film with a strong creative vision, offering a deep exploration of character within a compelling setting.”
Hayward added: “The story is rooted in place and pressure. The Midwest winter isn’t just a backdrop — it actively shapes the film’s tone and the characters’ decisions.”
Joshua Dixon, CEO of Mbrella Films, said: “This film marks our first feature produced in the U.S., and we see it as a foundation for future co-productions between the U.S. and Thailand.”
Mbrella Films provides production and post-production services for international features and television projects while developing its own original content slate. The company received a strategic investment from Friday Industries in 2025 as part of its international expansion efforts.
