Kathy Griffin, 65, called out over blonde bombshell makeover: 'You're fibbing about this'

Kathy Griffin has shocked her longtime fans after undergoing a blonde bombshell makeover.

The comedian, 65, admitted that her new look was inspired by Kim Kardashian's first stint as a blonde, with Griffin saying, 'I am indeed trying to keep up with the Kardashians!'

Griffin also insisted that her flaxen hair is not a wig and that she went through a lengthy process of growing and dyeing her hair in order to update her 'do.  

'I actually dyed my hair this color. This is my hair. I've been growing it long for a really long time,' she said in a YouTube video. 

'I know it's cheesy and I'm too old, but I've always wanted to try this hair color.'

Despite claiming that her tresses are her own, some fans in the comments accused Griffin of rocking a wig.

RuPaul's Drag Race star Willam Belli commented, 'WIG. The part says it all. Couldn't find a lick of scalp with a pickaxe and a laser.'

Another fan wrote, 'This is either a Nicole Kidman-level human-hair wig or it's 70% extensions. I say this as a gay and a former hairdresser.'

He added, 'I'm not being a hater, but I find it amusing that you were so candid about your facelift but are fibbing about this.'

A third commented, 'Kathy….girl…. C'mon. You can tell by the density and texture, it's a wig. A good wig… a damned good wig, but a wig.'

Despite a few naysayers, the rest of Griffin's fans praised her new look. 

'Kathy, it's super flattering and de-ages you by a good decade,' commented one.

Another wrote, 'I think it softens you, this needs to be your permanent hair color.'

Even some of Griffin's celebrity pals weighed in, with Lisa Rinna, Carson Kressley, and Beverly D'Angelo gushing about Griffin's blonde makeover. 

Griffin promised fans that she plans to return to her signature red hair eventually, but for now she wants to 'have a little fun' as a blonde.

This comes after Griffin had her third facelift, as well as an upper blepharoplasty with a trendy cat-eye stitch. 

'I have a new face, you guys,' she announced last August on YouTube.

'I had a facelift. That's right. By the way, this is my third,' she continued. 

'I just think it's funny that I'm even having one, because it's not like I'm known for my face.' 

She also confirmed that she had her face done by celebrity surgeon Dr. Ben Talei, who was behind singer Sia's facelift. 

In her 2009 memoir, Griffin also admitted that she got a nose job at 26 because of Hollywood's beauty standards.

'I was told repeatedly, "You would be pretty if it weren't for that nose. You'd work more if it weren't for that nose. Hey have you considered getting a nose job?" You would think I had a nose the size of Texas,' she wrote.

'I was young and impressionable and I was told that enough that I started to believe it, so I got a nose job.'
