Justin Bieber has surprised diners at a New Zealand pub after dropping in for drinks and settling down at the piano for an impromptu performance.

The Canadian singer, 32, visited the Duke of Marlborough Hotel in Russell on Thursday afternoon, giving patrons an unexpected brush with pop royalty.

His low-key appearance also caught the attention of TikTok creator Joe Daymond, who offered a cheeky take on the superstar blending in with the locals.

'Justin Bieber rocked up to a random bar up north looking like a dude that drives a Nissan Skyline,' Joe said.

The creator admitted he had no idea Justin was in the country, before imagining how confusing it would be to stumble across the singer performing in a local watering hole.

Justin's confirmed piano appearance took place in Russell.

The singer has also shared recent photographs from his New Zealand trip, including an image of himself playing the venue's piano.

Hotel co-owner Anton Haagh told RNZ that Justin visited with seven companions and began playing after spotting the red baby grand piano.

With its lid raised, many of the roughly 50 patrons could not see who was behind the unexpected musical entertainment.

Despite Joe's imagined scenario involving Justin singing his own hits, Haagh said the actual performance was instrumental.

'It was a lot of modern music, but he wasn't singing, he was just playing the piano,' he told RNZ.

According to Haagh, only a handful of diners recognised the famous visitor, with staff encouraging those who did to let him enjoy the afternoon.

Justin and his companions ordered seafood and drinks before leaving ahead of a crowd of around 30 to 40 people who arrived after word spread.

The singer later shared a photograph of the piano appearance on Sunday.
