June 29 Is A Huge Day For Cyberpunk 2077 Fans

It's been over five years since the release of Cyberpunk 2077, but the impact of the game is only growing. Despite a storm of criticism at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 attracted a loyal fanbase and an increasing amount of praise over time, bolstered by a series of strong updates.

It also brought a new level of attention to the Cyberpunk franchise as a whole, and the tie-in series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners took that momentum and ran with it. It doesn't look that that will be slowing down any time soon, as Cyberpunk 2077 fans can expect a new look at Night City in only a few days' time.

The official Edgerunners Instagram account released a new teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, sharing an illustration of the Night City skyline and a logo for the sequel series. According to the caption, the "first look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2" will land on June 29.

Today, Edgerunners followed up by adding a character illustration of a large man with dishevelled hair to the Night City graphic, captioning the image with "[CREW UPDATE] // +1 EDGERUNNER // WEAK KINGSLEY." This is paired with the quote "Heavy is a crown. Heavier is the chrome," which is about as Cyberpunk as something can possibly sound short of throwing in a Choom. Three other silhouettes have also joined the image, suggesting that more character reveals will likely lead up to June 29 on a daily basis.

Fans excited about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 shouldn't let the hype train accelerate too quickly, as we don't yet have a release date for the series. Plenty of Reddit commenters are expressing this caution, but others are happy to get anything at all. Street_Run6482 says "Idk what I'm even looking at but I'm excited," and realfakerolex shares their happy disbelief, as they "kind of can't believe this is actually happening."

While the upcoming first look certainly suggests that it won't be too far away, there's no guarantee that it's coming especially soon. If it follows a similar release window to the first series, September is a possibility, but it could just as easily arrive later.

For now, we know that it's a new, standalone story set in Night City, which certainly seems like a smarter choice than attempting to pick up the pieces after the ending of the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Like the first series, the second story will run 10 episodes in total.

Hopefully, the upcoming release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will manage to live up to the lofty expectations set by its predecessor. Cyberpunk 2077 has already proved that its legacy can weather some rough waters, but it would be ideal for fans to get another work that's great out of the gate.
