After an impressive six-month run in Shonen Jump and twenty-five chapters in all, Jujutsu Kaisen's hot new sequel, Modulo, has finally ended. Against all odds, the conflict between the Simurians and humans has been resolved, with the sequel ending on quite a hopeful note overall.

Jujutsu Kaisen Officially Fixes Its Most Controversial Ending

Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel manga just settled the biggest mystery of the entire series, delivering the satisfying ending it deserved.

Jujutsu Kaisen's Sequel Quietly Confirms Megumi's Fate

Nobara and Yuji talk about megumi being dead in jujutsu kaisen modulo

Following the aftermath of the ritual of harmony, Chapter #25 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo sees Yuji visit Nobara with Panda in tow. As the trio discusses their plan for the future and how to deal with the cursed spirits that will continue to be born, Nobara states that she wishes Megumi were still around, quietly implying that Megumi has indeed passed away.

Considering Modulo has already confirmed the deaths of many characters from the original series, such as Maki, Yuta, and Hana, Megumi being added to the list is hardly a surprise. Modulo's finale does not reveal when exactly Megumi died or how, but the mention of his death does make Modulo's ending somewhat bittersweet, especially since Jujutsu Kaisen's story may not be done just yet.

Jujutsu Kaisen May Return, But It'll Never Be the Same

While Cross and Maru's Cursed Technique may have wiped out cursed spirits for now, as revealed in Chapter #23 of Modulo, it is not possible to completely eliminate cursed energy from humans and Simurians. The traces of cursed energy leaking from outside Japan, as well as the Japanese and the aliens, will continue to give rise to cursed spirits, as few and weak as they may be.

As such, in the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Yuji recruits Nobara to help him put countermeasures in place. Yuji and Nobara's plan includes tracking down individuals with Heavenly Restriction, securing cursed tools, and teaching the current sorcerers about exorcising cursed spirits.

This alone opens up more than enough room for another spin-off or sequel after Modulo, either following Nobara and Yuji, or a whole new generation of Heavenly Restriction and cursed tool users. That said, even with Yuji and Nobara reunited for more adventures, the series will never quite be the same without Megumi, even with Todo potentially taking his place.

Megumi, Yuji and Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen

The original trio of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara, and the dynamic between them was one of the most fun aspects of Jujutsu Kaisen, especially earlier on in the series. Jujutsu Kaisen's main trio was especially reminiscent of Naruto's Team 7, but with a much stronger female lead in Nobara, and a far less sullen Sasuke in Megumi.

Unfortunately, the group was split with Nobara's "death" at Shibuya, leaving fans wanting more of Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi's shenanigans until the very end. And now, Megumi's confirmed death means the series' most iconic trio will never return, even if there is to be another addition to Jujutsu Kaisen's story.
