It’s approaching one full year since Keanu Reeves reprised his role as John Wick in the franchise’s first spin-off film, Ballerina, but now the action masterpieces that started it all are staging a comeback on streaming. The first three John Wick movies recently began streaming on HBO Max in America, and at the time of writing, all three films are sitting comfortably in the top 10. The fourth installment, which was released in 2023, is streaming exclusively on AMC+. As for the first offshoot, which stars Ana de Armas, the film is available to watch on Starz, where it’s been a streaming sensation.
This is all happening, although there have been no concrete updates on the fifth John Wick movie for months. It seemed a certainty that John Wick: Chapter 4 would be the final movie, considering the titular character dies at the end of the film. However, in the years after its release, there were whispers that Lionsgate was working on another John Wick movie. The studio made this official last year when it announced at CinemaCon that John Wick: Chapter 5 was officially in development. Little is known about the project at this time, apart from Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski both returning.
Stahelski has an excuse for the lack of John Wick: Chapter 5 updates, though. He’s in the heat of production right now on Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot, which also stars Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista. Just last week, Cavill shared the first images from behind the scenes of Highlander’s production. Stahelski is understandably prioritizing Highlander over John Wick: Chapter 5, so it may be a while before the next film in the franchise truly gets off the ground.
Will Ana de Armas Be in the Next John Wick Movie?
It has yet to be announced if Ana de Armas’ Eve will have a role in John Wick: Chapter 5. During the press tour for Ballerina, Armas was asked if she thinks Eve will be in the film, and while she didn’t confirm anything, she did say she thinks it would make sense. The duo spends quite a bit of time together in the 2025 spin-off. It’s also unclear how John Wick: Chapter 5 will explain how Reeves comes back from the dead or how he escaped death at the end of Chapter 4.
Be sure to watch the first three John Wick movies on HBO Max and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
