Oscars 2026 Best Dressed Celebrities: Nicole Kidman, Zoe Saldaña & More
It’s a sure thing that John Cusack was going to honor Rob Reiner.
At the Oscars 2026 following Billy Crystal’s kind words about the late director and his wife Michele Singer Reiner following their deaths in December, the Sure Thing actor stepped out with his costar Daphne Zuniga to pay homage.
Billy, John and Daphne were among several of Rob’s former Hollywood friends who honored him by standing on the stage at the 98th Academy Awards at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles March 15.
Many actors in This Is Spinal Tap—Rob’s first ever film—were present to pay tribute, including Michael McKean and Christopher Guest. Meanwhile, Stand By Me stars Jerry O’Connell, Will Wheaton, as well as The Princess Bride’s Fred Savage, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin and Carole Kane.
Billy was joined by his When Harry Met Sally costar Meg Ryan, and A Few Good Men stars Kiefer Sutherland, Demi Moore, Kevin Pollak also joined, with Misery’s Kathy Bates and The American President’s Annette Bening also appearing.
Following Rob and Michele’s horrific deaths—their son Nick Reiner has pled not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders—many stars in Hollywood have spoken out about how much they meant to so many people.
For John’s part, he emphasized that Rob was “charismatic, talented, generous,” during an appearance on The Joy Reid Show in December.
“He knew how to care for other human beings,” John continued. “He knew how to make people feel seen and loved. He knew how to protect people.”
Indeed, following Rob’s passing, John noted in a post on X that he was “a great man.”

Meanwhile, Billy along with several of Rob’s other Hollywood friends including Larry David and Albert Brooks, released a statement sharing their grief over losing both Rob and Michele.
“Strong and determined, Michele and Rob Reiner devoted a great deal of their lives for the betterment of our fellow citizens," their friends said in a statement to the Associated Press in December. "They were a special force together-dynamic, unselfish and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever."
