Former First Lady Jill Biden will publish her memoir, View from the East Wing, on June 2. The book will give her reflections on her husband Joe Biden‘s decision, after much pressure, to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, is publishing the memoir, as well as the audio edition, which the former first lady will read.

Per the publisher, in the memoir Biden “offers a candid and engaging look at a First Lady’s life during a unique time in U.S. history, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the shadow of the January 6 insurrection. Jill reflects upon the Biden presidency and its impact on her family. For the first time, she reveals her experiences before, during, and after the unexpected ending to her husband’s bid for re-election. Throughout it all, she saw herself as an ordinary woman, living an extraordinary life.”

The publisher said that in the memoir, Biden “sets the record straight — sharing her story in her words, from the perspective of a former First Lady.”

In an Instagram post, Biden said that she will share what her husband’s withdrawal from the race meant for her.

“Parts of this story have been told, but not all of it,” she said. “In View from the East Wing, I share the good moments that lifted me, and the difficult ones that challenged me. I also reflect on how this chapter in our lives came to a close, when Joe made the unprecedented decision not to seek reelection and pass the torch, what that moment meant for our family and for me, personally, after years of public service together.”

The former president also is working on his memoirs, with a publication date yet to be announced. Hachette Book Group will publish the book.

The title itself is a bit ironic, as the East Wing was torn down last year by President Donald Trump to make way for a new ballroom. That part of the White House has traditionally housed the first lady’s offices. Trump’s plans for the ballroom include new offices for the first lady as well as a new movie theater.
