Only one actress could win Best Actress last night, but nearly all the nominees took home the prize for best red lip. Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”), Rose Byrne (“If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You”) and Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”) all sported different shades of crimson for the 2026 Oscars — a dramatic flourish on a carpet otherwise defined by restrained beauty looks.

Buckley, who took home the award for Best Lead Actress last night, layered Chanel’s Ultrawear Liquid Lip Colour in Daring Red on top of the brand’s Longwear Lip Pencil in Rouge Cerise. Rather than lining the lips, Buckley’s makeup artist Nina Parker pressed the color onto the lips for a subtle, diffused finish. “The goal was to create a red lip that felt elegant and lived in,” she tells Variety.

The soft palette was inspired by her matte Chanel couture gown that combined vivid shades of pink and red. “With the striking red and pink tones, I wanted the makeup to feel harmonious,” Park says. “Soft, radiant skin, paired with a diffused red lip, highlighted her natural beauty, while maintaining an elegant and understated finish.”

Byrne, meanwhile, was one of many attendees last night to lean into Old Hollywood glamour by way of a red lip. The Best Actress nominee returned to the Oscars red carpet after a 14-year absence in a strapless Christian Dior gown and sleek updo, letting the lipstick take center stage. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo used Rouge Dior lipstick in velvet 846 Concorde, alongside Rouge Dior Contour Lip Liner Pencil in 999.

Reinsve’s makeup also centered on a sharp lip, courtesy of a matte Louis Vuitton product in the shade Vuittamine. The coral-red hue matched nearly perfectly to her striking red custom Louis Vuitton gown. Styled by Karla Welch, the “Sentimental Value” actress topped off the monochromatic look in red Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
