George R.R. Martin has given so much to the world through his fantasy writing, which has already produced three big-budget HBO shows, with more likely on the way. The first product to hit the small screen all the way back in 2011 was Game of Thrones, the eight-season historical fantasy epic based on Martin’s series of novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, which are still unfinished to this day — we’re waiting, George. The second Game of Thrones show to hit the air, House of the Dragon, was a prequel to the first series, and it’s based on Martin’s A Song of Fire and Blood novels, which cover the fall of House Targaryen. The most recent Thrones-adjacent series to air on HBO was A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which just wrapped up a beloved first season a few weeks ago.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was initially met with skepticism from fans when it was reported that the show would consist of only six episodes in its first season. This skepticism was further driven home when it was revealed that the episodes would be only 30 minutes long, meaning that the entire season would last only about three hours. However, it didn’t take the much smaller Game of Thrones spin-off long to win over fans on its way to becoming one of the highest-rated fantasy shows of all time. Still, even all these weeks after the Season 1 finale, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the second-most popular show on HBO Max, behind only The Pitt. It’s even held off newer arrivals like Rooster, the HBO comedy/drama starring Steve Carell.
When Does ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2 Come Out?
HBO has already confirmed that the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be released next year. Cameras rolled for Season 2 while Season 1 was still on the air, which will allow for a speedier return. The fourth and final season of House of the Dragon will also premiere in 2028, meaning that there will be three straight years with a new Game of Thrones show on the air. New reports also indicate that Warner Bros. is developing a big-budget Game of Thrones movie that would show Aegon’s conquest.
